March 17, 2026 was a lucky day for four local high school students. The Rotary Club of Carson City hosted its annual student speech contest during their noon luncheon. Four Carson High School students competed by presenting a speech on the topic "Unite For Good: Together We Make Dreams Come True". The topic was selected by Rotary District 5190 which includes sixty Rotary clubs. Students first compete at the club level. The participants win monetary awards. The winner then moves on to the next level. On Tuesday Nasia was judged to be the representative from the Rotary Club of Carson City, and will compete at the Area speech contest later in March. The winner of the Area contest then competes on May 2nd at the District Rotary Convention at the Grand Sierra Resort. That competition awards $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. All of the students gain valuable experience along the way. Congratulations to all participants!
