Montessori Kids Grow Gardens
Students at the Montessori Charter School in Carson City received a $5,000 grant to kick-start their own hydroponic garden system this year.
And they got it off the ground in great style, with a first crop of greens including lettuce and kale. Some of it will be consumed at the school and the rest is to be donated to the local FISH network to feed those in shelters.
School Principal Jessica Daniels told the Carson Rotary Club at the presentation last February 2019, that her teachers and students planned to continue the gardening project as long as they could. They expect to involve hundreds of their elementary school students in botany, planning, gardening and other related tasks over the next few years.
